About Our Club The club was formed in 1992 by a
group of sailors who owned sailboats in the Sugarloaf Harbour Marina, and Marlon
Marina This was for the purpose of organizing cruising, social activities and
racing.
The club is non-profit with a mandate to promote
the sport of sailing, and seamanship. We are a small but vital
and keen club with a current membership of 32 families, operating boats of
various types in the 22 to 40 ft range.
Mission
We are an enthusiast collection of
people from the Niagara Peninsula area who love to get outside and onto the
water in sail boats. Most of us own sail boats, some of do not but crew with
others that do. We all have a great respect for the water, weather, environment,
each other, and of course our boats. We have established the club as an non
profit incorporated entity for the purposes of:
Developing and fostering the sport of sailing
Promoting and encouraging the development of good seamanship navigational knowledge and sailing skills
Arranging sailing competitions and regattas and establishing and granting prizes, awards and distinctions
Organizing and sponsoring social events for the pleasure and accommodation of members and guests
Providing opportunities and training for leadership, self-development and sportsmanship in the sport of sailing
Such other complimentary purposes not inconsistent with these objectives
For the objectives aforementioned to carry on sailing classes and promoting demonstrations, seminars and events
Background The club was formed in 1992 by a
group of sailors who owned sailboats in the Sugarloaf Harbour Marina, and Marlon
Marina This was for the purpose of organizing cruising, social activities and
racing. The following year the Sailing School was started using two dinghies
donated by the Rotary Club of Port Colborne. Since then we have enlarged the
fleet to six CL-14 dinghies. The club is non-profit with a mandate to promote
the sport of sailing, and seamanship. The club became incorporated on August 2,
2000 as a non profit corporation. This step was taken as the most logical
structure on which to advance our mandate and goals. We are a small but vital
and keen club with a current membership of 32 families, operating boats of
various types in the 22 to 40 ft range.
